Fees & Rebates
We operate as a mixed-billing practice. Fees and rebates for consultations with our psychologists depend on the nature of the services provided. Please note that we are not a bulk-billing practice. For further information regarding our fees and the rebates we offer, please refer to the billing options you select:
Medicare Rebates
Fee (per session, 50mins) Rebate Out of pocket cost
$195 $96.65 $98.35
To receive a Medicare rebate, you must schedule an appointment with your GP, who will evaluate your healthcare needs to determine if a referral is necessary. We suggest requesting an extended appointment to discuss this with your GP. If your GP believes you would benefit from seeing a psychologist, you will receive a Mental Health Treatment Plan, which enables you to claim your rebate. Remember to bring this plan to your first appointment to qualify for the Medicare rebate on your sessions. Mental Health Treatment Plans cover various psychological issues, including adjusting to life changes such as bereavement, divorce, or job loss. For more information on Medicare rebates, click here for details from the Australian Psychological Society. Clients referred to Coastal Psychology & Therapy by their psychiatrist or paediatrician are eligible for the Medicare rebate without needing a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan.
Private Health Funds
Fee (per session, 50mins) Rebate Out of pocket cost
$195 varies varies
Many private health funds recognise Coastal Psychology & Therapy. If your private health insurance covers psychological counselling as an additional benefit, you might qualify for a partial reimbursement. The rebate amount can differ based on your health fund and insurance coverage level. We advise contacting your insurance provider for more details regarding your coverage and available rebates. We can often process most private health fund rebates immediately through our Tyro system, allowing you to pay the gap only during your appointment.
Self-Referrals
Fee (per session, 50mins) Rebate Out of pocket cost
$195 $0 $195
If you decide not to obtain a referral from your GP or are ineligible for Medicare, you can arrange an appointment with our psychologists. Clients who self-refer are responsible for covering the cost of their sessions independently.
Chronic Disease Management Scheme
Fee (per session, 50mins) Rebate Out of pocket cost
$195 $60.35 $134.65
The Chronic Disease Management Scheme is a government program to support individuals with chronic diseases or complex medical conditions. This scheme allows Medicare rebates for treatments provided by health professionals, including psychologists, who help manage these illnesses. Eligible individuals can claim Medicare rebates for up to five sessions. To access psychological services under this scheme, a GP must first create a management plan, known as a GP Plan and Team Care Arrangements, to facilitate better management of the condition with the help of allied health professionals.
Department of Veteran Affairs

Services are fully covered for DVA Gold Card holders. If you have a DVA White Card, please consult the Department of Veterans Affairs to see if you qualify for psychology services. Navigating the WorkCover process can be challenging, especially for first-time claimants. Many are unfamiliar with WorkCover psychology services. At Coastal Psychology & Therapy, we manage the paperwork for your treatment, allowing you to focus on recovery. The first six (6) therapy sessions are pre-approved so that you can begin right after your injury. For more details on psychological injury claims, visit:

NDIS
Coastal Psychology & Therapy provides personalised therapy support through the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme). We strongly believe that counselling and psychological assistance are vital in enhancing the well-being of individuals with disabilities. Our services cater to self-managed and plan-managed NDIS funding, though we currently do not work with NDIA-managed funding.
Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy
To assist other clients needing appointments, please notify us as soon as possible if you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment. Coastal Psychology & Therapy has a 48-hour cancellation and rescheduling policy. If you need to make changes, please let us know at least 48 hours in advance so we can offer your time slot to others. Cancellations or changes made with 24 to 48 hours' notice will incur a 50% fee for the session before rebooking, while same-day cancellations and no-shows will result in the full session fee being charged. Please note that Medicare and private health funds do NOT cover the costs of cancelled or missed appointments. For more information about our fees and rebates, contact our practice.
